BSRM Unable to Offer Train Rides for 2012
The BSRM will not be able to offer scenic train rides or special event trains for the 2012 season. This includes the Polar Express. The BSRM does not own or control the tracks over which it operated train rides. Train rides were made possible through an agreement between the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the owner of the tracks, the Housatonic Railroad Company of Canaan, CT. That agreement has expired.
Despite the efforts of Berkshire Scenic's Legislative Delegation and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the Housatonic Railroad has declined to negotiate the extension of the operating agreement without explanation. The Housatonic has stated this decision is final. Therefore, BSRM will not be able to operate any train rides. We apologize for the disappointment, however BSRM has no control over this situation.
We appreciate all of the words of encouragement and well wishes we have been receiving. It is YOUR support over the last 28 years which has made BSRM into the successful organization it has become and the countless smiles we have seen on our young passenger's faces which gives us the motivation to remain committed to offering entertaining and educational family trains rides. We will work tirelessly towards that goal.
